The Express women's basketball team (11-10, 7-3 Region 15) will look to snap its three-game winless streak. They did win their first head-to-head matchup over the Red Hawks, 69-52, back on January 20 at LaGuardia CC Sports Gymnasium. Freshman guard
Daysiah Smith was the catalyst for Monroe – Bronx in that game as she scored a game-high 34 points, shot 13-for-27 from the field and 6-for-11 from deep, while forcing seven steals, grabbing six rebounds, and distributing a trio of assists. The Red Hawks (4-11, 4-9 Region 15) were led by second-year forward Olithia Roach in the matchup, producing a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while forcing three steals and blocking two shots. Freshman center Moutiatou Djibring had a big game on the glass, as she grabbed a game-high 28 rebounds.
On the men's side, Monroe – Bronx (13-9, 7-4 Region 15) has won three consecutive Region 15 contests, a streak that started with a 71-40 victory at LaGuardia Community College back on January 20. Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx in that victory was sophomore guard
Jovan Young, who scored a game-high 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, while dishing out four assists, forcing three steals, and grabbing two rebounds. For LaGuardia (3-15, 3-11 Region 15), freshman guard Travon Lawrence generated 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals.
The Express women's and men's basketball teams each own a 2-0 record all-time against LaGuardia.
