Eason's Double-Double Lifts Express Men's Basketball to Region 15 Road Win Over Bronx CC

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx men's basketball team cruised to its third consecutive Region 15 victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Bronx Community College by a score of 87-60 at Alumni Gymnasium. The Express advance to 7-4 in regional play (13-9 overall), while the Broncos drop to 2-12 in the region (3-19 overall).
 
Monroe never trailed at any point in the game. The key stretch came early in the contest as a successful jump shot by sophomore guard Jaream Eason broke a 2-2 tie and began a string of 11 unanswered points by the Blue and Gold. Second-year guard Jovan Young capped off the early blitz with a triple off a feed by Eason to inflate Monroe's advantage to 13-2, just 4:38 into the contest. 
 
Later in the first half, Monroe – Bronx went on another big run, this time an 11-0 rally that concluded with a pair of free throws from Eason, to give Monroe – Bronx a commanding 52-28 hold with 59 seconds to go before the intermission. The Express finished the first half with more momentum thanks to a layup by sophomore forward Jevonté Valerie in the closing seconds to send his team into the break with a 56-30 cushion.
 
In the second half, Monroe – Bronx led by as many as 33 on their way to the decisive 87-60 Region 15 victory. 
 
During the evening, the Express outrebounded the Broncos, 60-42. Monroe – Bronx snatched 26 offensive boards as a team. 
 
For Monroe, Eason tallied his first career double-double as he scored 15 points and tied a career-high with 10 rebounds. He also forced two steals and dished out just as many assists. Young led all players with 19 points and delivered a trio of assists. Freshman guard Steven McGriff provided energy off the bench with 13 points, five assists, and a pair of caroms.
 
Also propelling the Express was Valerie who tallied 10 points and a duo of rebounds. Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah netted eight points, brought down nine boards, delivered two assists, forced a steal, and blocked a shot. Sophomore guard Derrick Simpson snatched nine boards and provided four assists, while classmate Anthony Bannister registered eight points, seven rebounds, and a helper. Second-year forward Timothy Charles notched four points and just as many boards.Rookie guard Jayden Gamory chipped in with four assists, two rebounds, and a pair of steals. 
 
Monroe – Bronx will host LaGuardia Community College, in a Region 15 matchup at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium, on Thursday evening. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
