Express Basketball Teams Brace for Region 15 Showdown With Hostos on Thursday, January 18

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will be in action for a key Region 15 doubleheader against Hostos Community College on Thursday, January 18. The two games will take place at The Swamp with the women's matchup starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8:00 p.m.
 
Live stats will be available for both the women's and men's games. 
 
The women's contests will have national and regional implications. The Express (8-6, 6-1 Region 15) are ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Rankings, while the Caimans (10-3, 7-1 Region 15) are ranked No. 13. Both teams are battling for first place in the Region 15 standings. 
 
This marks the second meeting between these two teams this year, with Hostos winning the first matchup by a score of 68-55, at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium, back on December 5. Sophomore forward Demaris Andrew led the way for Hostos by tallying a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while dishing out three assists. Freshman guard Daysiah Smith helped Monroe with 15 points, four boards, just as many assists, and four steals. 
 
Monroe – Bronx is 6-9 all-time against Hostos.
 
On the men's side, the Express (10-8, 4-3) have won three of their last four games. The Caimans (10-7, 5-4 Region 15) enter Thursday's game on a three-game-winning streak and have scored over 100 points during each victory in that stretch.
 
Monroe – Bronx won the first head-to-head matchup of the season against Hostos, 92-83, on December 5 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah had a big game for the Express as he scored a game-high 29 points, shot 10-for-19 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists, and forced a trio of steals. Sophomore guard TeAmo Ebron chipped in for the Caimans with 21 points off the bench, while dishing out six assists, grabbing five rebounds, and forcing a trio of steals. 
 
The Express are 8-5 all-time against the Caimans and have won four consecutive head-to-head matchups. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
