NEW YORK – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team earned a dominating Region 15 road victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College, 94-61, at BMCC Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 16. The Express (9-6, 6-1 Region 15) sweep the season series over the Panthers (3-10, 3-8 Region 15).
The story of the game was freshman guard
Daysiah Smith who netted 43 points for the Express, the second most points scored in a game in program history, while shooting 18-for-30 from the field (60.0%). Smith also grabbed seven rebounds, forced six steals, and dished out five assists.
Smith fell just three points short of the team's single-game scoring record, as Julie Trowers scored 46 points for the Express against Bronx Community College back on January 15, 2019, at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
In the victory over BMCC, the Express led from wire-to-wire and had a double-digit advantage during the final 34:42 of the contest. Monroe – Bronx's defense forced 42 opposing turnovers and the Express took advantage by scoring 52 points off of BMCC turning the ball over.
As a unit, Monroe – Bronx shot 50% from the floor (39-for-78).

Tymere Moorer sparked the Express off the bench during the evening with 12 points, seven rebounds, and just as many steals. Rookie guard
Angeleny Cobos tallied eight points. Freshman guard
Tiffany Newsome provided seven points, five steals, and just as many boards. First-year guard
Leanna Morales produced seven points, dished out three assists, and gathered a trio of caroms.
Monroe – Bronx will continue its three-game Region 15 road trip on Thursday, January 18, with both a national and regional showdown against nationally ranked No. 13 Hostos Community College. Tipoff at The Swamp is set for 6:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
