Express Basketball Teams Set For Region 15 Doubleheader at Borough of Manhattan on Tuesday, January 16

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx basketball teams will return to Region 15 action on Tuesday, January 16, in a doubleheader against Borough of Manhattan Community College on the campus of BMCC. The women's game will begin at 5:00 p.m., while the men will start at 7:00 p.m.
 
Both contests will have live streaming video. The women's broadcast can be seen here, while the men's video will be in this link. There will also be live stats for both the women's and men's matchups.
 
On the women's side, the current nationally ranked No. 14 Express (8-6, 5-1 Region 15) won the first head-to-head matchup over the Panthers (3-9, 3-7 Region 15), 79-60, back on November 16 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. 
 
Leading the way for the Express this season has been freshman guard Daysiah Smith who is averaging 19.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.9 steals per game. Rookie guard Angeleny Cobos is scoring 8.4 points per contest.
 
For the Panthers, sophomore guard Emily Kennedy is scoring 20.0 points, grabbing 9.1 rebounds, forcing 5.2 steals, and dishing out 5.1 assists per game. Rookie forward Sheliyah Jackson is generating 7.9 points and 7.5 boards per contest. 
 
Monroe – Bronx is 8-2 all time against BMCC. The Express dropped the first two head-to-head meetings with the Panthers during the Blue and Gold's inaugural season in 2017-18 but have won every game since then. 
 
On the men's side, Monroe – Bronx (9-8, 3-3 Region 15) dropped the previous encounter this year to the Panthers (6-10, 6-4 Region 15), 72-50, in Throggs Neck, N.Y. back on November 16.
 
Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah is having a very productive season for Monroe – Bronx with 20.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Second-year guard Jovan Young is scoring 12.2 points per outing. 
 
For BMCC, second-year guard Yaia Marte is scoring 18.7 points per game, while freshman forward Isah Mohammed is averaging a near double-double with 9.1 points and 13.5 rebounds per contest. Mohammed has blocked 70 shots so far this year for Borough of Manhattan.
 
Monroe – Bronx is 7-4 all-time against BMCC. The Express won six straight games against the Panthers before dropping their latest meeting earlier in the season. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
