BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will be back in action on Thursday, January 11 as both teams take on Community College of Rhode Island at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. The women's game will be a battle of nationally ranked teams as the Express (7-5) are ranked No. 14 and the Knights (7-3) are ranked No. 7. The contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. The men's contest will follow at 8:00 p.m.

On the women's side, the Express have an impressive 6-1 record against NJCAA Division III teams. Rhode Island had a stretch of winning six out of seven games before suffering a 68-63 overtime loss on the road to Southern Maine Community College back on Saturday, January 6.
Leading the way for the Express has been freshman guard
Daysiah Smith who is scoring 18.8 points, grabbing 5.7 rebounds, dishing out 4.3 assists, and forcing 3.7 steals per game this season. Sophomore forward
Kristina Poitier-Wells is snatching 7.8 boards per game and has been a force on defense with 20 blocked shots so far this year.
For the Knights, sophomore guard Nysia Ortiz is producing 17.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.6 steals, and 3.6 assists per game. Rookie guard Angelisse Melendez is generating 15.9 points per contest.
The Express are 3-0 all-time against the Knights.
On the men's side, the Express have a record of 8-8 so far this year. The Knights are off to a sluggish start at 4-10. This is the second head-to-head matchup between these two teams this year. Monroe – Bronx won the first matchup, 87-73, at the Brookdale Classic at Robert J. Collins Arena back on November 11. It was the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
Propelling the Express this year has been sophomore forward
Abubakar Kromah who is averaging 20.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4.25 assists per game. Classmate
Jovan Young is scoring 11.4 points per contest.
For the Knights, freshman forward Kobe Fife is netting 12.4 points per game. Freshman center Henry Robinson is producing 12.3 points and 5.2 boards per contest.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
