Express Hit Big In Rout Over Queensborough

The Express battle Queensborough in a conference matchup on Friday, April 28th

BROOKLYN, NY – Monroe Express baseball met the Queensborough Community College Tigers for the first time this season Tuesday afternoon for a Region 15 contest inside Kingsborough Athletics Field. The Express came out with the victory, 24-3, their largest margin of victory this season. Monroe improves to 21-18 on the season and 10-7 in Region 15 play.

Ernie Farrell was in the zone on Tuesday, tallying five hits and leading the Express to a 24-3 win over Queensborough. Farrell singled in the first, doubled in the second, singled in the fifth, singled in the sixth, and homered in the seventh.

Monroe got on the board in the first inning when Farrell singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The Express kept their foot on the gas, notching eight runs in the seventh. Randy Diaz, Farrell, Imanol Ramos, and Jabez King each had RBIs in the frame.

Miguel Polanco earned the victory on the mound for Monroe. The hurler surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out six. Jonathan Rondon threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Miguel Baez took the loss for the Tigers. The pitcher surrendered ten runs on 13 hits over three innings, walking one.
The Express smacked three home runs on the day. Gregory Espinal had a homer in the fourth, Farrell went deep in the seventh and Hecxiel Perez put one out in the first inning.

Monroe totaled 28 hits. Farrell led Monroe with five hits in six at bats.

Queensborough as Alvarez and Lynch all had multiple hits for the Tigers.

The Express will battle Queensborough for a second time in Region 15 action on Friday, April 28th inside Kingsborough Athletics Field in Brooklyn, NY. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
