NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Monroe Express found themselves back in the win column after a Sunday afternoon doubleheader sweep over Monroe Mustangs JV. Monroe Bronx led the series with a game one shut out (11-0 seven innings), and an 11-3 final in game two. With these victories, the Express improve to 3-5.
Monroe Express 11, Monroe Mustangs JV 0
Adrian Quezada didn't allow a single run against Monroe College JV, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Express to an 11-0 victory in game one of their Sunday series.
Express Varsity got things moving in the first inning, where
Camilo Rodriguez drove in one when Rodriguez singled. The Express kept things going later in the game, notching five runs in the third inning. Their big inning was driven by a single by
Imanol Ramos, a sacrifice fly by
Randy Diaz, and a double by
Ian Faulkner.
Quezada was credited with the victory for Monroe Bronx. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one. The Express tallied one home run on the day, when
Jose Zabala Rodriguez went for the long ball in the fourth inning.
The Express tallied ten hits in the game, where Faulkner, Rodriguez, and Ramos each collected multiple hits. Faulkner went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Monroe Bronx Express in hits. Express Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Ramos had the most chances in the field with nine.

In their second meeting of the day, the Express easily dispatched the Mustangs with an 11-3 final.

Samuel Tejada pitched the Express to victory. Tejada surrendered two runs on three hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out nine.Â

Frank Ballar entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Monroe Bronx hit one home run on the day claimed by Zabala Rodriguez who had a dinger in the second inning. The Express tallied 11 hits on the day. King,
Camilo Rodriguez, and Zabala Rodriguez all managed multiple hits in the latter meeting. King,
Camilo Rodriguez, and Zabala Rodriguez also each collected two hits to lead the Express.
The Express travel Thursday (Mar. 9) to take on the Cecil College Seahawks in an afternoon doubleheader at Brockell Baseball Field in North East, MD at 12:00 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
