Express Baseball Fall Behind Early to Nassau

Express baseball continue on the road Thursday (Mar. 23) against SUNY Orange

GARDEN CITY, NY – Monroe Express baseball took to Garden City, NY Tuesday evening for a single matchup against the Nassau Community College Lions, dropping the ball game 10-7 in nine innings. With the defeat the Express fall to 6-9 on the season.

Monroe watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover as the Lions piled on early in the game. Nassau Community College scored on two errors in the first inning, a double by Joseph Leone in the second inning, and a single by Julio Lizardo in the second period as well.

The Express collected nine hits and Nassau had ten in the high-scoring affair with the Lions opening up scoring in the first. Trailing by five runs, Imanol Ramos slugged a line drive, resulting in a double that drove in Diego Moran to get within four. In the ninth, Ian Faulkner knocked a single into right field, pushing Ramos past home plate. 

Nassau scored three runs in the fifth inning, as their offense in the inning was led by Stephen Marinez and Braden Clark, all driving in runs in the frame.

Brian Chin got the win for Nassau, as the pitcher lasted six and a third innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out eight. James Reilly threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen and Reilly recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for the Lions.

Alex Bello-Rodriguez took the loss for the Express. The bulldog surrendered eight runs on seven hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.

Monroe collected nine hits on the day, with Ernie Farrell and Faulkner managing multiple hits in the ball game. Farrell led the Express with three hits in four at bats.

For Nassau, the Lions totaled ten hits in the game. Lizardo and Marinez each managed multiple hits, as Lizardo went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead his team in hits. Nassau didn't commit a single error in the contest.

The Express travel to Middletown, NY Thursday (Mar. 23) to take on the SUNY Orange County Community College Colts at Colt Baseball Field, with first pitch taking place at 3:30 PM.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
