Box Score SUFFERN, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx men's basketball team could not sustain its strong start to the game as they ended up falling to NJCAA Division II Rockland Community College by a score of 93-84, at Rockland CC Gymnasium, on Saturday, December 9.
Monroe – Bronx (6-6) jumped out to a big lead early in the contest, but the Hawks (4-6) rallied to gain a 46-43 advantage going into the intermission, and then outscored Monroe 47-41 in the final 20 minutes of play to earn the victory.
Leading the way for the Express was sophomore forward
Abubakar Kromah who registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 7-for-12 from the floor. Freshman guard
Steven McGriff came off the bench and netted a team-high 20 points, shooting 8-for-13 in the process, while securing a trio of rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Vashaun Wallace had a solid game for Monroe – Bronx with nine points, eight boards, and three assists. Classmate
Jovan Young tallied seven points, snatched six caroms, and dished out a pair of assists. Sophomore guard
Jaream Eason added nine points and two rebounds, while second-year guard
Derrick Simpson generated four points and six boards.
It will be a quick turnaround as Monroe – Bronx will battle Bryant & Stratton – Virginia Beach's junior varsity team on Sunday, December 10. The game will take place at Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y. with a start time of 2:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
