Express Basketball Teams Set to Battle NJCAA Division II Orange County on Saturday, December 2

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will be in action on Saturday, December 2, as they will take on NJCAA Division II Orange County Community College at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. The women will play at 12:00 p.m., while the men will start at 2:00 p.m.

The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team is coming off a convincing 66-36 victory over Region 15 rival and nationally ranked No. 14 Nassau Community College back on Thursday, November 30. It was a battle of two teams who were undefeated in region play and against NJCAA Division III opponents. 
 
A player to watch for the Express is sophomore forward Kristina Poitier-Wells who had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while blocking six shots and dishing out five assists in the Express' win over the nationally ranked Lions. This season, rookie guard Daysiah Smith is scoring 19.7 points, grabbing 5.3 boards, and is averaging 3.5 assists and steals per game. 
 
Orange County (2-3) is coming off a loss on the road to Ulster County Community College back on November 30. They have been led by sophomore forward Liliana Ramirez this year who is producing 16.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Second-year guard Amiyah Nguyen is generating 14.5 points, 3.5 assists, and just as many steals per contest.
 
On the men's side, Monroe – Bronx (5-4, 2-3 Region 15) is coming off a come-from-behind Region 15 victory over Nassau, 68-54, on November 30. 
 
Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah is generating 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game for the Express this season. Classmate Jovan Young is scoring 15.0 points and bringing down 3.0 rebounds per outing.
 
Orange County (6-2) has won three games in a row, with the latest triumph being a 77-56 final on the road against Ulster County on November 30. 
 
For the Colts, freshman guard Marquis Gill is scoring 18.3 points per game, while second-year guard Daniel Lans is providing his team with 12.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.1 assists per contest.
 
The Express women's basketball team is 1-2 all-time against Orange County, while the Monroe men's basketball program is 1-3 all-time against the Colts.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
