No. 4 Express WVB To Battle No. 13-Seed Northampton in First Round of NJCAA Tournament on Thursday, November 9

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The nationally ranked No. 4 Monroe College – Bronx women's volleyball team will battle nationally ranked No. 12 Northampton Community College in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Tournament on Thursday, November 9. The match will take place at Alliant Energy PowerHouse Arena, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, beginning at 3:00 p.m. central time.

The Express (22-1) enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed, while the Spartans (15-0) will compete as the No. 13 seed. These two teams met in last season's national tournament, with Northampton winning the first round of the consolation bracket in straight sets.
 
Monroe – Bronx will compete in its second straight NJCAA Tournament after capturing its first ever Region 15 Championship and second straight district title. This year, the Express won the North Atlantic A District Championship to secure their automatic bid into the national tournament. The Spartans captured both the Region 19 and East District Championships to clinch their spot in the NJCAA Postseason.
 
Leading the way for the Express will be Region 15 Player of the Year and first team honoree Lisanel Rodriguez as she is scoring 4.65 points per set, slamming home 3.65 kills per game, and is anchoring the defense with 3.13 digs per stanza.  
 
Second-year setter Luisanni Rodriguez has been a complete player for Monroe - Bronx this season. The 2023 Region 15 Setter of the Year and first team recipient is averaging 7.18 assists per set and 2.38 digs per frame. She also has 13 total blocks this year. 
 
Sophomore libero Valery Nunez earned a spot on the All-Region 15 second team this season. She has been a staple on the defensive side for the Express, averaging 4.94 digs per set. 
 
For the Spartans, they will be led by the reigning two-time Region 19 Player of the Year Ayana Bomani. She has 153 total kills this year, as well as 233 digs and 99 blocks. Rookie Kailen Felty was bestowed All-Region second team honors this season, as she is ranked No. 1 in the country with 1.85 blocks per set and has 119 kills with 218 digs this season.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
