Basketball Teams Set to Take on Dutchess on Tuesday, November 21

BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will take on Dutchess Community College, in a Region 15 doubleheader, at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 21. The women will begin at 6:00 p.m., while the men are scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.

Monroe Express Men's Basketball Game Program

The nationally ranked No. 11 Express women's basketball team is undefeated against Region 15 opponents at 2-0 (2-4 overall) and have been led by freshman guard Daysiah Smith who is scoring 18.8 points, grabbing 4.5 rebounds, and dishing out 3.0 assists per game. First-year guard Tymere Moorer is generating 7.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game, while blocking seven total shots this season.

The Falcons women's squad is off to a great start, winning three of their first four Region 15 games (4-1 overall), including a thrilling overtime victory on their home court over then-nationally ranked No. 13 Hostos Community College, 57-54, back on Tuesday, November 14. Freshman guard Alexis Ochoa-Pena is scoring 21.6 points, bringing down 6.0 rebounds, dishing out 3.2 assists, and forcing 3.8 steals per contest. First-year forward Shalanda Lefevre and freshman center Maya-K Johnson are each producing a double-double per game (13.8 points and 13.4 rebounds per contest for the former and 10.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for the latter). 

On the men's side, Monroe - Bronx is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 15 play. Monroe is coming off a come-from-behind victory on the road over Union College, 92-76, on Saturday, November 18. Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah is netting 24.0 points, grabbing 9.3 boards, distributing 4.3 assists, and forcing 2.3 steals per game this season. Second-year guard Jovan Young is netting 13.3 points per contest, while classmate Jaream Eason is producing 10.5 points and securing 6.0 caroms per game.

The defending Region 15 Champion Dutchess men's basketball team is off to a strong start at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 15 play. They have climbed up to a No. 5 national ranking in the latest NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Poll. Freshman guard Prince Kamate is producing 13.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while rookie forward Quincey Platt is averaging a double-double per contest with 12.6 points and 11.0 rebounds. He has also blocked 18 shots so far this year.  

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
