BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx Athletics Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Bryan Diaz to head coach of the Express baseball team.
Diaz is no stranger to the program, as he was a pitcher for the Express during his sophomore season in 2019. He returned to the Monroe - Bronx baseball squad in 2021 where he spent the next three seasons at the assistant/pitching coach. During Diaz's three years of being in charge of the varsity pitching staff and serving as assistant coach, Monroe captured the 2022 NJCAA Region 15 Championship, made the region championship game twice, and qualified for the Region 15 Postseason three times.
"I am honored to take over the team after assisting John Torres over the past three years," Diaz said. "I am thrilled to keep building this program and lead it to new heights. I wish John the best of luck on his new journey."
Diaz is known for developing pitchers using methods such as driveline to strengthen velocity and is a teacher of arm care.
Torres, former Monroe - Bronx head baseball coach, has coached Diaz during the latter's playing days for the Express in 2019 and mentored Diaz when he was his assistant for three years. "I congratulate Diaz, who has been a very loyal and hard working assistant coach over the past few years," Torres said. "I am confident Coach Diaz will continue what we have built here for many years to come. He will also have the support of outstanding assistant coaches."
During the 2022 season, Diaz was the head coach of the Monroe College - Bronx junior varsity baseball team.
Diaz played as an outfielder for the Monroe College - New Rochelle junior varsity team as a freshman in 2016.
"We are very happy to name Coach Diaz the next baseball head coach for the Monroe Express," Monroe College - Bronx Director of Athletics Allaire Primiano said. "As a Monroe Mustangs alumnus, a Monroe Express alumnus, and a Monroe Express assistant coach for the last three years, I am confident Coach Diaz is the right individual to lead and continue building on what he's recently been a part of. We look forward to the continued success that our baseball student-athletes will have both in the classroom and on the field under Coach Diaz's leadership."
A native of the Bronx, Diaz graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Monroe College - Bronx in 2019.
