BRONX - The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College - Bronx women's volleyball team will take on Kingsborough Community College on Thursday, October 5. The action at Kingsborough CC Gymnasium will begin at 7:00 p.m.
There will be no live coverage of the match so fans can check out MonroeExpress.com, as well as our social media channels, for updates and results of the Region 15 contest.
This marks the second time this season that these two teams will meet. Monroe - Bronx (12-1, 7-0 Region 15) won the first head-to-head matchup in straight sets, at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium, back on September 14.
The Express are undefeated in Region 15 play this year, and have won eight matches in a row. Monroe was put to the test this past Tuesday, as it took five sets to defeat Queensborough Community College at RFK Gymnasium.
Kingsborough (4-6, 3-5 Region 15) is also coming off a thrilling five-set victory on Tuesday, defeating Nassau Community College on the road.
Leading the way for the Express this year has been sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez, who was named the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Offensive Player of the Week, last Wednesday, September 27. She is scoring 4.18 points per set, slamming home 3.00Â kills per stanza, averaging 1.10 service aces per set, and recording 2.43 digs per frame so far this season. Second-year libero
Valery Nunez has made a big impact on the defensive end with 4.23 digs per set, including a season-high 33 bumps to help lead Monroe to the five-set victory at Queensborough.Â
Sophomore setter
Luisanni Rodriguez is having a great all-around year for the Express with 6.25 assists per frame, 1.76 points per game, and 1.95 digs per stanza. Second-year outside hitter
Selena Mitchell is scoring 2.40 points per game, slamming home 1.74 kills per set, and is helping the defense with 1.40 digs per stanza.
For Kingsborough, sophomore Noarie Proverbs is generating 2.47 kills and 4.16 digs per set. Classmate Aneesa Leka has provided 3.52 assists and 2.00 digs per frame. Second-year player Victoria Cook is leading the way defensively with 4.38 digs per stanza.
Monroe - Bronx is 3-2 all-time against Kingsborough.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
