Monroe Express Baseball Falls on the Road at Sussex County

AUGUSTA, N.J., April 28, 2022 – The Monroe College Express baseball team dropped a 13-3 decision to Sussex County Community College Thursday afternoon at Skylands Stadium. The Express fall to 16-19 overall with the loss, while the Skylanders improve to 13-19.
 
The Skylanders took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on the Express, but Monroe cut the deficit in half in the top of the second with an RBI single by Malvin Gutierrez. In the third, the Express tied the game when Jose Ramirez homered to right. Salomon Lluveres later brought in a run on a groundout, putting the Express ahead, 3-2.
 
Unfortunately, the game went the way of the Skylanders the rest of the way, as they scored the next 11 runs to pick up a 13-3 win.
 
Jimmy Perez De Prado picked up the win for Sussex County to improve to 1-1. Moises Figueroa took the loss for Monroe to fall to 1-4.
 
Ramirez finished 1-for-3 with a solo homer in the game. Gutierrez also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ruben Ogando batted 1-for-3, while Juan Jorge hit 1-for-4 with a run scored.
 
The Express are back at it tomorrow, April 29, when they visit Borough of Manhattan Community College in nearby Bellerose, N.Y. The Region 15 action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
