BELLEROSE, N.J., April 29, 2022 – The Monroe College Express baseball team set the program record for runs in a game just three days ago in a 24-3 win over Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). The Express re-set that record on Friday, defeating BMCC this time by a score of 29-1 at the Padavan-Preller Complex. The win improves the Express to 17-19 overall and 10-8 in Region 15 play, while BMCC falls to 0-18 both overall and in the region. The Express also set the program's single-game hits record with 25 in the win.

The Express got off to a fast start in Friday's matchup.
Joseph Rosario doubled with one out in the top of the first, and then
Ernie Farrell blasted a two-out, two-run home run to left, giving the Express an early 2-0 advantage.

Monroe pounded it on in the top of the second.
Randy Diaz singled,
Jose Ramirez doubled, and then
Anthony Gonzalez Jr. was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Juan Jorge then brought in two on a single to center, and Rosario knocked in two more with a double to left, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Salomon Lluveres and Farrell hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it an eight-run game.
Jose Arrieta singled, and then
Malvin Gutierrez knocked in Farrell with a hit to right to put Monroe ahead by nine.

Three batters later, Gonzalez brought in a run on a fielder's choice, making it a 10-run Express lead. Jorge was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, and then Rosario walked in a run to bring the score to 11-0. Lluveres cleared the bases with a triple to left, bringing in three runs to make it a 14-0 game. After a walk by Farrell, Arrieta homered to center, and then after a Gutierrez walk, Diaz homered to center, making it a 19-0 Express lead after a 17-run second inning.

The scoring continued for the Express in the third. Jorge led off with a walk, and then Rosario doubled to left to put both runners in scoring position. Lluveres followed with a two-RBI triple to right to make it a 21-0 score. Two batters later, Arrieta doubled to left to plate another run and put the Express ahead by 22. Another two batters later,
Jabez King hit a pinch-hit RBI single, then Ramirez doubled him in. A single by Gonzalez brought in Ramirez and helped Monroe once again set its single-game run record, pushing the lead to 25-0.
Joseph Rosario brought in one more run on an RBI double, leaving the Express ahead, 26-0, after another seven runs in the third.

The Express put two runners on in the fourth for
Ramsel Jerez, who doubled to left to bring in Monroe's 27th run of the game.
Saul Abreu drew a walk, and then
Jabez King brought in Jerez on a fielder's choice to leave the Express ahead, 28-0.

After BMCC picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Express got themselves on the board one more time in fifth.
Anthony Reda was hit by a pitch, and then
Ruben Ogando walked.
Quinn Kilroy followed with an RBI single to score Reda and bring the score to 29-1.

In a scheduled bullpen day,
Victor Vilomar got the start for Monroe, going three innings and allowing no runs on one hit with three strikeouts to earn his first victory of the season. Keijiro Fujiwara took the loss for the Panthers.

Lluveres finished 3-for-4 with two triples, six RBIs and two runs scored in the win. Arrieta batted 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs. Rosario also hit 4-for-4, totaling three doubles, four RBIs and four runs. Farrell hit 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and a home run. Diaz homered and finished 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs. Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a pair of two-baggers. Gonzalez knocked in two runs and scored three times himself after going 1-for-4. Jorge scored twice and plated two more runs in a 1-for-2 outing.

The Express and Panthers got head-to-head twice more on Saturday, April 30, this time at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m. Prior to first pitch, the Express will celebrate Sophomore Day, honoring its sophomore in a pregame ceremony.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
