Monroe Express Baseball Drops Region 15 Opener To Suffolk C.C. On The Road

Seldon, New York, March 22, 2022 – On Tuesday afternoon, the Monroe Express Baseball team lost their Region 15 opener to Suffolk County Community College, 19-3, in Seldon, New York. The Express fell to 3-8 with the loss, while the Sharks improved to 4-5-1.

The Express opened the scoring in the top of the first with two outs as both runs came in via a walk and a balk by Gregory Vivenzio, making it 2-0 going into the bottom of the first. Suffolk County Community College took over from there, tying it at two in the bottom of the first on an RBI triple by Peter Montana to center and Daniel Deutsch RBI double to right field.

After the Sharks went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of two Express errors, Monroe-Bronx would get within one, 4-3 on a Randy Diaz RBI single in the top of the third. The Sharks pulled away, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the third, with Tyler Dirocco, John Keane, Anthony Amato, Montana, and Alex Knopf all bringing runners across the plate, with RBIs in the inning. Montana and Knopf picked up two apiece on RBI singles. In the bottom of the fourth, the Sharks continued to pour it on as Amato was walked in, Jackson Capellan nailed an RBI single to right field, Deutsch came across the plate on a wild pitch and drove in another on a double. Luke Herron cranked an RBI single to center field, making it 19-3 and keeping it at that mark for the victory at home.

Vivenzio earned his first victory on the season for Suffolk County Community College going four innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out two. Andrew Wilcenski tossed one inning of relief, retiring two of the three batters he faced with a walk and a strikeout.

Chris Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the loss lasting two and a third innings, allowing five hits and ten runs while striking out one.

The Express will regroup and hit the diamond again in two days on Thursday, March 24, in another Region 15 road matchup against Dutchess Community College at 4 p.m. For more information, visit the Monroe Express Baseball Schedule Page.
