SELDEN, NY – Monroe Express men's basketball opened their post-Thanksgiving regular season schedule Tuesday night, opening up a brief Long Island Region 15 road trip, taking on the Suffolk County Community College Sharks, resulting in a 75-59 victory. The Express go to 6-2 (3-1 Region 15) with the win, and the Sharks fall to 3-4 (2-2 Region 15) with the loss.
Jasigha Barnes led the way for the Express with 15 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Oramis Figuereo was closely behind with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Abubakar Kromah and
Anthony Bannister pitched in 10 points a piece. Kromah added 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block, while Bannister three rebounds, three steals and one assist.
The Expres travel to Garden City, NY Thursday (Dec. 1) for a Region 15 matchup against the Nassau Community College Lions.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
