BROOKLYN, NY – Monroe College-Bronx men's soccer completed a 10 point shutout Thursday afternoon against the Kingsborough Community College Wave in Brooklyn, NY. The 10 points in today's game marks the second consecutive game for the Express with 10+ goals scored.
Coming off a 13 goal match Saturday, the Express kept their offense rolling with an early
Federico Sandoval cross shot from Jan Lucas Steinmetiz to break the scoring ice at the 12 minute mark. Monroe saw a wide open field, as three minutes later
Denis Schmidt sunk a goal from a Hugo Barbeiro corner kick. The blue and gold continued their scoring barrage heading into the second half with seven goals.
Marc Peris and
Zion Julien took over the offensive reins in the second half, to settle the final at 10-0.Â
In the end, the Express totaled 11 shots, 10 shots on goal, eight assists and two saves. Monroe goalkeeper
Mateus De Fonseca Pereira registered one save during the match.
The Express close out their regular season Monday (Oct. 17) with a Region 15 stint against the Nassau Community College Lions in Garden City, NY.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
