Express JV Men’s Basketball Starts The New Year Off Strong With A 69-62 Victory At Home

New Rochelle, NY, January 22, 2021 – Hitting the hardwood for the first time since last December, the Monroe Express JV men's basketball team was itching to get back to competition. The Express put on a solid performance and held off a late rally to defeat Touro College, 69-62, on Sunday afternoon at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Monroe-Bronx improves to 4-2 on the season.

The Express had four players finish the afternoon in double figures, with Freshman Audley Falconer (Bronx, New York) leading the offense with a game-high 17 points. Classmate Chamarri Baskerville (Queens, New York) added 14 points and hauled down a game-high 18 rebounds while also dishing out eight assists, another game-best. Kyle Parks (Yonkers, New York) scored 12 points, and Darius Rivers (Bronx, New York) chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Touro College jumped out to a 6-2 lead at 17:36, and then the Express responded with a furious 21-3 run over the next 9:25 stretching their lead to the largest of the day, 14 points (23-9) at 8:06 on a Falconer layup. The Tornadoes rallied with an 11-0 run to close the deficit to three, 23-20 when DJ Abreu went 1-for-3 on a three-shot free throw before the Express closed with a 10-3 run to lead 30-23 at halftime.

In the second half, Jordan Wilson (PeeKskill, New York) knocked down a three to extend the Express's lead to eight, 35-27 at 18:18, before Touro put together a 9-0 run to lead for the first time since early in the first half 36-35 on a Cameron Brown three-pointer. Touro would lead by one again 38-37, and then the Express would use a 13-2 run to build their lead back to double digits by 10, 50-40 at 9:03 on a three-point play by Parks and back to its largest of the game 14, 62-48 at 4:08 on a Leshawn Bryant (Brooklyn, New York) three-pointer.

Cameron Brown cut the lead down to five, 63-58 with 1:28 remaining, but that was as close as they would get as the Express would hold on to win 69-62.

For Touro College, three players scored in double-figures, with Danzel Laglaise leading all scorers with 16 points while Cameron Brown and Nelis Wise contributed 14 and 12 points each. Brown also handed out four assists in the contest.
