GARDEN CITY, N.Y., May 20, 2021 – The Monroe College Express baseball team is set for its first-ever appearance in the Region 15 Championship Tournament, beginning Thursday afternoon. The Express come in as the No. 3-seed in the three-team field, facing off with No. 2 Nassau Community College in a best-of-three opening series.

Monroe College (7-18)

The Express enter this week's championship tournament with a 1-5 mark against their region foes. The Express came out on top in their first region game against Suffolk, an 8-6 victory back on April 9. Demetrio Rodriguez leads the Express with a .418 batting average, 24 runs, six home runs and 22 RBIs on the season. On the hill, they are led by Chris Dominguez, who finished the regular season 3-2 overall with a 5.92 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 38 innings. Always a speed threat, the Express have been successful on 66-of-79 stolen-base attempts this season.
 
Nassau Community College (10-6)

The Lions went 3-3 in Region 15 competition this season. Nassau swept the Express, but lost its three contests against Suffolk. Richard Apollo leads the Lions with a .477 batting average and 17 RBIs on the season. Frank DiMartino hits .314 with 20 runs scored. Bryan Krowlikowski leads the pitching staff with 29 innings pitched, compiling a 4.97 ERA and 37 strikeouts.
 
Suffolk County Community College (17-8-1)

The Sharks finished the year 5-1 against its Region 15 counterparts. They have been strong on offense, putting together a team batting average of .327. Jake Giannico leads the way with a .432 batting average and 25 runs scored. Peter Montana has a team-high 26 RBIs and a .431 average. Louis LaRocco has tossed a team-high 43.2 innings this season with a 5.56 ERA and a 2-1 record.
 
The Region 15 Championship is the final stage for the Monroe, Nassau or Suffolk this year, as the champion will not compete in a District or National tournament this season. Suffolk won the Region 15 Championship back in 2019, but ultimately fell in the District Championship to Community College of Rhode Island.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
