Monroe Express Men’s Soccer Comes Back Twice before OT Victory over Nassau

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., April 25, 2021 – The Monroe College Express men's soccer team fell behind in each half on Sunday, but managed to tie the game both times to eventually force overtime against Nassau Community College. With just over two minutes remaining in the first extra period, Jean Woobens Zamy rolled one past the keeper for the 3-2 victory. The Express improve to 1-1 on the season with the win, while the Lions drop to 0-2-1.

Gabriel Garreta put the Lions ahead in the seventh minute of the game, but the Express tied things up when James Gerbier headed a free kick from Andres Lora into the net at 32:38 to eventually send the game to the half with a 1-1 tie.

Nassau's Edwin Castellon broke the tie in the 59th minute on a penalty kick. With just under 17 minutes left on the clock in regulation, Kymron Ashley took a pass from Hans Langer and took a sliding kick toward the net, beating the netminder to tie the game once again at 2-2.

In the overtime period, Langer once again provided an assist, setting up Woobens Zamy in the box to roll the ball to the left side of the net and over the line for the game-winner in the 98th minute.

Jose Hernandez made four saves in the game to earn his first victory for the Express and improve to 1-1 on the season.

Gerbier, Ashley and Woobens Zamy provided the goals for the Express in the win. Langer tallied two assists, while Lora provided one himself on a free kick.

The Express have a bit of an extended break before returning to action on Wednesday, May 5, in another road matchup at Nassau Community College. That game is set to kick off at 6 p.m.
