Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Monroe Express Men’s Soccer Falls in Opener to Top-Ranked Monroe Mustangs

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., April 23, 2021 – The Monroe College Express men's soccer team opened its season against arguably the toughest opponent it could face, the NJCAA's top-ranked Division I team, the Monroe College Mustangs, falling to the defending Div. I National Champions by a score of 7-0 Friday afternoon at Skidelsky Field. The Express open the year at 0-1, while the Mustangs improve to 2-0.

The Mustangs got the scoring started in the second minute and did not look back, netting three goals in the opening half before adding another four in the second stanza for the 7-0 conquest.

Just over a week after the Mustangs' season opener, which saw them hold Suffolk County Community College to a single shot, and none on goal, the Express managed to fire off seven shots in the game, forcing the Mustangs' goalkeepers to stop four shots to secure the win.

Goalkeeper Jose Hernandez shouldered the loss in net, but he stopped seven shots in the game. Jacob Forster and Leon Grueneke split goalkeeping duties for the Mustangs, making two saves apiece.

The Express will look to get in the win column in their next match, which is set for Sunday, April 25, at Region 15 foe Nassau Community College. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
