Monroe Express Baseball Drops Two at Suffolk

SELDEN, N.Y., April 10, 2021 – After opening the weekend series with a big win on Friday, the Monroe College Express baseball team dropped a pair of matchups at Suffolk County Community College on Saturday. The Express fall to 3-6 on the season with the losses, while the Sharks improve to 5-8-1.

Game 1: Suffolk 11, Monroe 1 (5 INN)
The Express fell into a whole in the bottom of the second when the Sharks put up five runs. Monroe got a run back on an RBI single by Demetrio Rodriguez in the top of the third, but that was it for the Express in Game 1, as the Sharks put up six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to force a run-rule, 11-1 finish after five.

Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 with an RBI in the opener, while Quinn Kilroy hit 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Game 2: Suffolk 16, Monroe 5 (5 INN)
Unfortunately, the Sharks got off to another strong start in Game 1, scoring a run in the bottom of the first before adding seven more in the second. The Express fought back in the top of the fourth, posting five runs to get back within three, but the Sharks got back on track after that and scored another eight runs across the next two frames for a 16-5 win after five.

Alexander Aponte went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a double in Game 2. Anthony Burgos also hit 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jake Arrieta doubled in a 1-for-3 outing, scoring a run and knocking in another.

The Express will look to bounce back on Sunday, April 11, when they visit Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m.
