Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Rolls Over BMCC Behind Dominant Second Half Effort On The Road

New York, N.Y. (November 18, 2021) – Fresh off defeating a nationally-ranked opponent two nights ago, the Monroe Express Men's Basketball team built on their momentum en route to a 100-64 blowout road victory on Thursday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The Express's second straight victory improves them to 2-1 (1-1 Region XV) while the Panthers drop to 1-3 (1-3 Region XV).

The Express offense got contributions from 11 different players on the night and five scored in double figures. Sophomore Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) and freshman Chad Duke (Brooklyn, New York) dropped a game-high tied 16 points on the night, with Duke's career-high performance coming off the bench.

Upperclassman Onterio Miller (Bronx, New York) drained 15 points, and a team-high tied three three-pointers alongside Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico), who had 13 points in the contest. Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) also chipped in with 11 points of his own. Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) dished out a game-high six assists, all in the second half, while Stone brought down a team-high six rebounds and tied a team-best along with BarnesCordero, and Duke with three steals.

The Express registered their fifth career 100 point game on Thursday night and reached that mark for the first time since February 6, 2019, against ASA Manhattan while also shooting a season-high 56.8% from the field (42-74 FG) and scored 25 points off of 20 Panther turnovers. Their bench produced a total of 54 points, and they dominated BMCC in the paint 48-10.

The Express and Panthers went blow for blow in a competitive first half, with the game being tied twice at seven on a BMCC three-pointer at 16:18 and 15 on a Panther jumper with 11:40 remaining. Monroe-Bronx constructed an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to get the advantage to eight, 26-18 on a Duke layup with 7:40 to go. BMCC closed within two points twice more before the Express closed out the half on a 14-4 run going into halftime with a 42-32 lead.

It was all Monroe-Bronx in the second half as they outscored BMCC 21-9 over the first nine and a half minutes, never looking back, taking this road contest effortlessly 100-64.

BMCC was led by CUNY Rookie of the Week Jeremiah Carti who posted a team-best 13 points while William Brown chipped in with 11 of his own. Spencer Barnes grabbed a team by six rebounds, and Emmanuel an adoption swipe it away a game-high five shots.

The Express will get a chance to extend their winning streak to season-high three well-rested on the road Tuesday, November 23 against Dutchess CC at 7 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, NY. Their home matchup on Saturday against County College of Morris at the Monroe Athletic Complex was canceled. For more information, visit the Monroe Express Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
