Middletown, N.Y., February 1, 2020 –The Monroe Express men's basketball team held off a late rally on Saturday afternoon, defeating Orange County Community College on the road, 77-73.

The win marks the team's third consecutive victory while improving to 8-15 overall on the year.

Freshman
Adonis Robinson finished with a team-high 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists while freshman
Kevon Wiggins chipped in 19 points. Rookie
Marquel Jackson captured his first double-double of the season, posting 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophomore
Kevin Benjamin added four points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the win.
Charlie Fernandez had seven points and four rebounds while
Isiah Ryan recorded four points and rebounds and
Jaiden Simon tallied four points and six rebounds.

The Express connected on their first five of ten shots to jump out to a seven point lead, 14-7, under five minutes into the opening half. A 7-2 spark near the end of the first half pushed Monroe's lead margin to 14 (37-23) with 2:27 left. Monroe exited the first half leading Orange 37-26.

In the second half, the Express led by 14 (56-42) midway through. Trailing since the first half, Orange used an 11-5 run to cut Monroe lead down to single digits, 68-63, with 2:01 left in regulation. Back-to-back free throws by the Broncos trimmed Monroe's lead down to three with 35 seconds to go.

Robinson netted hit three pair of free throw attempts to seal the Express' 77-73 victory.

Orange narrowly outshot Monroe in the contest, shooting 41.8 percent while the Express shot 40 percent. The Express won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Broncos 43-41.
Up next, the Express head across town for a Region XV matchup with Bronx rival Bronx Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
