Bronx, N.Y., February 4, 2020 – In an intra-borough matchup, the Monroe College Express men's basketball program extended their win streak to four straight games, defeating Bronx Community College in a thrilling consent on Tuesday night, 78-76.

The Express improve to 9-15 overall and 5-9 in Region XV play.

Sophomore
Jameek Brown had a solid game off the bench for the Express, scoring a season-high 16 points. He was 6-of-8 from the field (4-of-4 from the free throw line). He also added four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Freshman
Adonis Robinson posted a team-high 18 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Freshman
Kevon Wiggins had a near triple-double, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and a career-high nine steals and five rebounds.

Isiah Ryan picked up 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals in the win. Sophomore
Kevin Benjamin added six points and five rebounds while sophomore
Brayan Lara had a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman
Jaiden Simon ended the night with eight points and four rebounds while classmate
Charlie Fernandez recorded four points and three rebounds.

A pair of three-pointers from Wiggins in the opening minutes of the game helped the Express jump out to four-point lead (10-6) under four minutes into contest. BCC answered with a 12-4 run, building up a six-point advantage (20-14) midway through the first half. The Broncos ended the first half wit a narrow 43-41 lead.

Entering the second half, the Express opened with a 17-3 run, knocking down seven of their first 10 baskets to take a 58-48 lead with 13:58 left. A layup from Benjamin grew Monroe's lead to 14 (62-48) for their largest lead of the game.

Down by 12 with under seven minutes to go in regulation, Bronx CC put together an 11-3 run to close Monroe's lead to single-digits, 74-71, with 1:27 left in the game. The Broncos were able to bring the game within two (75-73) after a pair of made free throws from Steven Glover wit 24 seconds left. But the Express ended any thoughts of a come as Ryan nailed a trio of shots from the charity stripe to seal the victory
Up next, the Express continue Region XV play on Thursday, Feb. 6 when they travel to take on ASA-Manhattan.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
