Monroe Express JV Women’s Basketball Completes Comeback to Down SUNY Sullivan JV, 54-53

New Rochelle, N.Y., February 2, 2020 – The Monroe Express JV women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to upend SUNY Sullivan JV, 54-53, on their home court at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Sunday. The Express improve to 2-11 with the win.
 
Freshman Tiffani Turpin led the Express with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals. Freshman Alimah Goodwin collected a double-double, recording 10 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Darlenny Liranzo also registered a double-double, tallying 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Freshman Mynra Gregoire finished with four points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Freshman Talynthia Riley-Miller had a 12 rebounds and three steals while classmate Rovell Cayenne added eight rebounds.
 
Entering the fourth quarter trailing by 10 (43-33),  the Express used a huge 14-4 run to tie the contest at 47-47 with 4:22 remaining. A three-pointer by Liranzo boosted the Express to their first lead since the first quarter, leading the Generals 50-49 with 2:31 to go. Monroe held off a late push from Sullivan, pulling off a 54-53 victory.
 
The Express JV women's basketball program returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 13 against Ocean County Community College.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
