Monroe Express Women's Basketball Set to Face Dutchess in the Quarterfinal Round of the Region XV Playoffs

Bronx, N.Y., February 25, 2020 – The Monroe Express women's basketball program begins postseason play tonight in 2020 NJCAA Region XV Championship Tournament, hosting Dutchess Community College at the Wellness Center at the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y. The No. 3 seeded Express will face off with No. 6 seeded Falcons in the Region XV quarterfinal round.

#AllAboard - Looking at the Express
First-year head coach Jeremy Thompson has guided the Express to their best overall record, finishing the 2019-20 regular season with an 18-12 (11-5 Region XV) mark to secure the No. 3 seed in the postseason conference tournament. 

Freshman Quanisha Griffin has led Express this season, averaging 16.9 points per game, 3.6 per game assists, and 4.7 per game rebounds. Sophomore Monae Laing has tallied 8.5 points per game and 6.6 rebounds while Desteny Arzu pulled down 8.4 rebounds per game.

Dutchess completed the regular season with a 9-14 (6-11 Region XV) overall record to earn the No. 6 seed in the postseason conference tournament. Kamryn Hammond has powered the Falcons offense this season, posting 25.6 points per game while Starr-Aisa Hayes has scored 18.9 points per contest. 

THE SERIES
The Express are 4-1 all-time vs. Dutchess heading into Tuesday's contest. The Express has won four of the last three meetings, defeating the Falcons in both meetings this season.

The winner of Tuesday night's contest advances to play in the NJCAA Region XV semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 29.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
