Monroe Express Men's Basketball Set to Host Bronx CC in Region XV Quarterfinals

Bronx, N.Y., February 25, 2020 – The Monroe College Express men's basketball program begins its postseason journey on Tuesday, Feb. 25, hosting Bronx borough rival, Bronx Community College for an 8:00 p.m. matchup at the Wellness Center at the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y. The No. 4 seeded Express will take on the No. 5 seeded Broncos in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 NJCAA Region XV DIII Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.


#AllAboard - Looking at the Express
The Express enters the postseason as the fourth seed after winning eight of their last 11 games, wrapping up the regular season with a 12-17 overall record while going 8-10 in conference play. The team will look to carry their momentum into the playoffs after closing out the regular season with an upset win over No. 4 nationally-ranked Nassau Community College, 79-75, last week.  

Freshman Kevon Wiggins is the team's leading scorer, dialing in 17.1 points per night while pulling down 4.2 rebounds. Freshman Adonis Robinson is second on the team leaderboard, scoring 16.1 points per game while averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Rookie Isiah Ryan is the Express' third-leading scorer, tallying 12 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.


Scouting Bronx CC
The Broncos went 12-15 overall and 8-10 in Region XV action this year. Sophomore Tilquan Rucker heads into the postseason leading as one of the top players in the country, leading the nation in total points (771), points per game (32.1), and total steals (127). Malik Hamilton 

The Broncos last played on Friday night, falling to Hostos Community College in the 2020 CUNYAC Championship, 108-86.


THE SERIES
The Express has won the four of their last six games against the Broncos,  holding a 4-2 advantage in the series. The Express won both matchups this season, defeating Bronx CC 84-80 at home on Nov. 12 and won the second matchup on Feb. 4, 78-76, sweeping the season series for the first time. 

The winner of Tuesday night's contest advances to play in the NJCAA Region XV semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 29.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
