New Rochelle, N.Y., January 21, 2020 – Freshman
Kevon Wiggins poured in a career-high 39 points to lead the Monroe Express men's basketball team past the Borough of Manhattan Community College via a final score of 91-85 on Tuesday night at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
Wiggins had the hot hand all night, connecting on 12-of-23 from the floor, including 8-of-14 from three-point range, to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Kevin Benjamin had another solid performance, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Freshman
Adonis Robinson tacked on 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals in 40 minutes of action.
Freshman
Isiah Ryan totaled seven points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals in the win. Freshman
Jaiden Simon played well off the bench for the Express, ending with a season-high five points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
For the game, the Express held advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Panthers 42-36 in the contest. The Express also netted a season-high 12 three-pointers in the game
The Express return to action on Thursday, Jan. 23, heading across town to take on the No. 12 nationally ranked Hostos Community College at 8:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
