Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat BMCC, 62-47

New Rochelle, N.Y., January 21, 2020 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team used a strong third and fourth quarter to top the Borough of Manhattan Community College on Tuesday, 62-47. The Express improve to 13-6 overall and 7-2 in Region XV play.
 
Freshman Ramatoulaye Diallo was the spark off the bench for the Express, tallying a career-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and picked up six rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Freshman Quanisha Griffin had a solid outing, adding 19 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, and three assists. Imoni Beauvais finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists in the win.
 
Freshman Barbara Valentin had seven points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Freshman Aissata Diallo grab a career-high nine rebounds and six points. Freshman Desteny Arzu had her sixth double-digit rebounding effort of the season, finishing with 10 boards, along with three points and a pair of steals.
 
The Panthers owned the first quarter, outscoring the Express 17-10 in the opening frame, holding the home team to shoot a quarter-low 18.18 percent in the period. BMCC held onto their lead in the second quarter, entering halftime with a 34-23 lead.
 
The Express turned things around in the second-half, using a 12-2 scoring run to shave BMCC's lead to three, 38-35, with 1:04 left in third. With under a minute to go in the frame, Beauvais knocked down a three-pointer to tie the contest at 38-38 heading into the fourth.
 
A 12-2 run to kickoff the fourth quarter helped the Express jump out to a 10-point lead (50-40) at the 6:38 mark. Monroe closed out the game outscoring the BMCC 12-7, holding the Panthers to only two made baskets in the quarter.
 
Up next, Monroe Express women's basketball program travel across town for a Region XV matchup against the No. 5 nationally ranked Hostos Community College Caimans on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6:00 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
