New Rochelle, N.Y., January 14, 2020 – The Monroe Express women's basketball program earned a dominating victory on Tuesday evening, toppling Gateway Community College at home, 60-47. The Express move to 12-6 overall with the win.
Freshman
Quanisha Griffin recorded a game-high 18 points, five assists, and four steals. Freshman
Imoni Beauvais poured in a career-high 14 points, draining four-of-six from beyond the arc, along with three assists and two steals. Sophomore
Monae Laing dialed in 13 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman
Barbara Valentin picked up five points, 10 rebounds, and a pair of assists while rookie
Desteny Arzu grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.
Monroe's defense allowed Gateway to shoot just 28.3 percent in the contest and outrebounded Gateway 47-4.
Up next, the Express returns to Region XV competition on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at home against the Borough of Manhattan Community College at 6:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
