New Rochelle, N.Y., January 14, 2020 – Despite a strong late-game rally, the Monroe Express men's basketball team came up just short on Tuesday night, as the Express dropped an 88-84 decision to Suffolk County Community College at home.
Sophomore
Kevin Benjamin led the Express with a career-high 22 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. Freshman
Adonis Robinson had 21 points, a season-high seven assists, and five rebounds. Freshman
Kevon Wiggins posted 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Freshman
Isiah Ryan ended the night with eight points and five rebounds while sophomore
Kevin Austion netted nine points.
Suffolk had three players finish in double-digit scoring, led by Quinton Williams's game-high 34 points. Tyler Carey and Joshua Nunez each scored 10 points for the Sharks.
The Express shot a solid 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the floor but allowed Suffolk to make good on 56.9 percent (29-for-51) while both teams grabbing exactly 32 rebounds.
The Express return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21, hosting Borough of Manhattan Community College at the Monroe Athletic Complex at 8:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
