NEW YORK, N.Y., September 6, 2019 – After erasing a two-goal deficit, the Monroe College Express men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Region XV opponent Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) on Friday at Pier 40. The Express move to 2-0-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in region play, while BMCC starts its season at 0-0-1.
BMCC's Djiby Diallo scored twice in the first half, once in the 11th minute and again in the 42nd minute, to put the Panthers up, 2-0, at the half. The Express caught a break early in the second half when BMCC committed an own goal to cut the deficit in half.
Andres Lora then tied the game with a penalty-kick goal at the 68:37 mark, eventually forcing overtime. Despite two extra periods and 20 extra minutes to play, neither team was able to break the tie, resulting in the 2-2 draw.
Express goalkeeper
Fred Guillou made three saves in the game and moves to 1-0-1 on the season. BMCC's goalkeeper Miguel Alvarez had a matching line with three saves of his own in the tie.
The Express will look to start a new winning streak on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when they visit Rockland Community College in Suffern, N.Y. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
