SUFFERN, N.Y., September 10, 2019 – The Monroe College Express men's soccer team took to the road on Tuesday and picked up a 6-0 shutout victory over Region XV foe Rockland Community College. The Express improve to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in region play, while the Hawks drop to 1-3 and 0-1.
The Express struck early and often in the first half on Tuesday.
Elhadj Diallo scored the first goal of the game at the 10:59 mark to give the Express a quick 1-0 lead.
Momodu Touray then scored off an assist by
Andres Lora in the 17th minute to put Monroe up by two.
Emerson Guevara got Monroe on the board again at the 31:57 mark to push the lead to three. Diallo scored again shortly after, and
Jean Woobens Zamy made it three goals in three minutes for the Express to put Monroe ahead, 5-0, heading into halftime.
Nol Serqua kept the momentum rolling for the Express just 34 seconds into the new frame when he scored off a feed from
Abul Chowdhury to make it a 6-0 game. The Express focused on their defense from that point forward, keeping the Hawks off the board to complete the shutout.
Starting goalkeeper
Fred Guillou made two saves without allowing a goal to pick up the win and improve to 2-0-1 on the year.
Sergio Servin took over in the second half, stopping one shot without giving up a score. Rockland keeper Robert Dale made two saves but allowed six goals.
Diallo's two goals led the way for the Express in Tuesday's win. Guevara, Touray and Woobens Zamy each provided first-half goals, while Serqua potted one in the second half. Lora and Chowdhury each provided an assist in the victory.
The Express will play next on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they visit Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y., for another Region XV matchup. The game is set to kick off at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 12 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
