MIDDLETOWN, N.Y., September 14, 2019 – The Monroe College Express men's soccer team had an offensive explosion on Saturday, rolling to a 15-0 victory over Orange County Community College in Region XV action. The Express improve to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in region play with the win, while the Colts drop to 0-4-1 and 0-2.
Edwin Zuniga Lopez kicked off an enormous first half for the Express with a pair of goals in the eighth and ninth minutes for an early 2-0 lead.
Elhadj Diallo followed in the 13th minute, and then
Andres Lora scored at 14:56 to make it a 4-0 game.
Emerson Guevara scored just 70 seconds later, and then
Momodu Touray netted another on a penalty kick at 19:10 to push the lead to six.
Zuniga Lopez completed his hat trick at the 26:43 mark, and then Guevara potted his second of the half in the 32nd minute to make it an 8-0 score. Lora scored his second of the game in the 38th minute, and then Guevara picked up his third to make it a 10-0 game in the 39th minute. 60 seconds later, Touray scored one more for the Express to push the lead to 11-0 heading into halftime.
The Express slowed things down in the second half, but continued to add to their score while keeping the Colts off the board.
Luis Torres scored at the 57:02 mark, and then
Jean Woobens Zamy netted on in the 66th minute to make it a 13-0 game.
Abul Chowdhury tallied a goal at 75:26, and then
Kevin Gomez Reyes capped things off at 81:35 for the 15-goal victory.
Sergio Servin made three saves to pick up the shutout victory for the Express. Conor Donovan shouldered the loss for Orange despite six saves.
Guevara finished with eight points on three goals and two assists in the win. Touray picked up seven points with two scores and three assists. Zuniga Lopez tallied all three of his goals in the first half. Lora netted two and added an assist for a five-point afternoon. Diallo, Gomez Reyes, Chowdhury, Woobens Zamy and Torres all scored once in the win. Goevany Maldonado added an assist as well.
The Express will look to keep rolling on Tuesday, Sept. 17, with another Region XV matchup at nearby Bronx Community College. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 12 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
