NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 25, 2019 – Following an 11-18 (9-6 Region XV) regular season, Monroe Express women's basketball enters the 2018-19 Region XV Championship Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Express will host fifth-seeded Queensborough Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC) in New Rochelle, N.Y. in the Region XV Championship Quarterfinals.
In their second season under Head Coach
Carl Isidore, the Express won four more games than their inaugural season in 2017-18, finishing 11-18 overall and 9-6 in region play, good for the No. 4-seed in the region tournament.
The Express finished with a 5-6 record at home, 6-8 on the road, and 0-4 in neutral-site matchups.
Julie Trowers led the Express in scoring this season, averaging 15.9 points per game, while
Maryam Camara tallied a team-high 10.7 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Express averaged 56.0 points per game, shooting 34.0 percent from the field and 21.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Express were one of the better rebounding teams in the NJCAA Division III, ranking 18th in offensive rebounds per game (18.0) and 21st in total rebounds per game (45.4).
Monroe also ranked seventh in the regular season in blocks per game with 5.7.
The Express will face a Queensborough team they beat twice this season. The Express traveled to Bayside, N.Y. on Saturday, Dec. 8 and hosted the Tigers at the MAC on Saturday, Feb. 16.
Trowers led the Express with 11 points and nine rebounds as the Express defeated the Tigers on Dec. 8 and again on Feb. 16, recording a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, when Monroe topped Queensborough at home, 57-29.
Queensborough finished the regular season 8-12 (6-9 Region XV). Leeza Theodore leads the Tigers averaging 12.5 points per game, while Georgia Alexiou is averaging a team-high 9.6 rebounds per game.
As a team, Queensborough averages 50.2 points per game, shooting 35.8 percent from the floor and 26.5 percent from three. The Tigers also average 29.4 rebounds per game, and are second in NJCAA Div. III in blocks per game at 6.8.
Should the Express advance to the Region XV Semifinals, they'll take on the No. 1-seed, the Hostos Community College Caimans on Saturday, March 2 at 2:15 p.m. at the Borough of Manhattan Community College Gymnasium in New York, N.Y.
The Express will take on No. 5-seeded Queensborough on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 29 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has nine varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
