NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 21, 2019 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team fell to the Monroe College Mustangs, 84-40, on Thursday in their second intra-campus matchup of the season.
After a slow start for both sides, the Mustangs opened up a 15-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, and took a 42-8 lead at the half.
The Mustangs continued their charge in the third quarter, as the Express fell behind, 70-14. And while the Express outscored the Mustangs, 26-14, in the fourth quarter, the deficit proved to be too much and Mustangs still picked up the 84-40 victory.
With the loss, the Express drop to 10-18 on the season, while the Mustangs finish the regular season at 20-8.
Tatyana Forde led the Express with 14 points, while
Julie Trowers added 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
The Express wrap the 2018-19 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 23 when take on Kingsborough Community College on Sophomore Night at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 29 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has nine varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
