NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 16, 2019 – Behind a huge second quarter run, Monroe Express women's basketball topped the Queensborough Community College Tigers on Saturday, 57-29, at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
After a slow start for both sides, with just two total points scored in the first 3:52, the Express opened an 11-4 first quarter lead, and led, 13-7, heading into the second quarter.
Up by six, the Express opened the second quarter on a 19-0 run, holding the Tigers scoreless for the first eight minutes of the period to extend their lead to double-digits. The Express led by as many as 25 before heading into the break with a 32-10 lead.
In the third, Leiya Conklin and the Tigers found their range, shooting 35.3 percent, but the Express equaled their 14-point output to keep their lead at 22.
And after Queensborough scored the first two buckets of the fourth quarter, Monroe held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way, ending the game on an 11-0 run to earn the 57-29 victory.
With the win, the Express move to 10-17 (8-6 Region XV), while Queensborough falls to 8-12 (6-9 Region XV).
Julie Trowers led the Express with 19 points, adding 10 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season.
Tatyana Forde joined Trowers in double-figures with a season-high 18 points, adding five rebounds and five steals.
The Express next play their final road game of the 2018-19 campaign when they take on the Monroe College Mustangs in an intra-campus matchup at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 29 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has nine varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
