Stone Ridge, N.Y., November 25, 2019 – Behind a strong second half, the Monroe Express Men's Basketball team defeated SUNY Ulster on the road, 79-71.
Freshman
Kevon Wiggins led scoring with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds. Freshman
Terrence Trice scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Adonis Robinson poured in 13 points and five rebounds.
Isiah Ryan chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals while
Loquan Deloatch added seven points and five rebounds and
Kobe Daniels had five points.
Ulster created an early advantage with a lead as large 14 points in the early going. Trailing 17-31, Monroe put together a 18-7 run to cut their deficit to three points at halftime, 38-35.
Trailing by seven points midway through the second half, the Express went on a 12-6 run to take their first lead since the first half, 63-62, with 5:40 left. The Express built up an eight-point cushion, holding a 72-64 lead with 4:16 remaining in the game.Monroe held off the Senators in the final stretch of the game to earn the victory.
The Express shot 49.2 percent (31-for-63) from the field in the victory. The Express was able to take advantage of 24 Ulster turnovers in the contest, generating 25 points off those while the bench scored 42 points in the effort.
The Express return home on Tuesday, Nov. 26 with a conference tilt against Dutchess Community College.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
