Box Score New Rochelle, N.Y., November 12, 2019 – Powered by five players in double-figures, the Monroe Express men's basketball program outlasted Bronx Community College, 84-80, in their Region XV opener on Tuesday. The win improves the Express to 2-1 on the season.

Trailing by 14 (38-24) after a slow start to the contest, the Express sparked a monstrous 16-2 run to knot the game at 40 apiece with 2:04 remaining in half. The Express closed out first half outscoring the Broncos 8-4, connecting on their last seven of eight shots to carry a 48-44 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Monroe and the Broncos played a tight contest, with the Express leading by as much as five (56-51) with 11:52 left in regulation, the Broncos used a 6-2 run to tie the game at 67-67 with 10:47 remaining.

Over the next three minutes, the Broncos outscored the Express 9-2 to hold a 76-69 lead over the Express with 7:07 left in the game. Monroe answered back, scoring seven unanswered points to tie the game at 76-76, with 4:19 to play. The Express forced three turnovers in the final stretch of the game to pull out an 84-80 victory.

Freshman
Isiah Ryan led five Express players in double-figures, scoring a new season-high of 22 points, along with seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman
Derek Smith closed out the game with his first double-double of the season, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie
Adonis Robinson led the Express off the bench, netting a season-high 20 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
Sophomore
Eric Goodman collected 10 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes of play while classmate
Loquan Deloatch picked up 10 points, four boards, and two steals.
The Broncos were paced by Tilquan Ruckers' game-high 35 points while Malik Hamilton and Brian Urena notch 22 and 11 points respectively.
Monroe owned the rebounding battle, holding a 40-29 advantage over the Broncos. The Express forced 23 turnovers in the contest, converting to 31 points.
The Monroe Express men's basketball program continues conference play on Thursday, hosting Queensborough Community College. The contest will take place at the College of New Rochelle Gymnasium at 8:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
