Monroe Express Men's Soccer Falls to No. 4 Nassau on the Road, 2-1

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., October 14 - The Monroe Express men's soccer team dropped a tight contest on Monday night, falling to the No. 4 nationally-ranked Nassau Community College Lions on the road, 2-1. 

The loss drops the Express to 7-3-1 and 6-2-1 in Region XV play.

The Lions struck first when Carlos Martinez scored the first goal of the match in the 15th minute to give the Nassau an early lead.

Nassau got its second goal in the 69th minute when Jasson Cruz found the back of the net to extend the Lions lead, 2-0. 

The lone score for Express came from sophomore Momodu Touray in the final minutes of the match (88:02) via an assist from classmate Jean Woobens Zamy.

Sophomore Fred Guillou made sevens saves in his first start of the season. 

Freshman Emerson Guevara tallied three shots in the match while freshman Edwin Peralta had two. 

Overall, Nassau narrowly outshot Monroe in the contest, holding a 10-to-9 advantage. 

The Express returns to the pitch for their regular-season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 15. against Suffolk County Community College.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
