Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Tops BMCC, 87-40

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 22, 2019Julie Trowers and Destinee White each scored 20 points as Monroe Express women's basketball defeated the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers, 87-40 on Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
After the Express opened the first quarter on a 10-0 run, they outscored the Panthers, 14-7 the rest of the quarter to take a 24-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Monroe and BMCC traded buckets to open the second quarter, before the Express closed the half on a 13-0 run to take 53-19 lead into the locker room.
 
White led the Express with 18 points at the half, setting a new career-high.
 
In the third quarter, the Express outscored the Panthers, 24-8, to pull away, before finishing off the 87-40 victory in the fourth.
 
With the win, the Express move to 8-12 (7-3 Region XV) on the season, while BMCC drops to 3-12 (3-6 Region XV).
 
White and Trowers each led the Express with 20 points, while Jacqueline Jimenez also scored a season-high with 12. On the glass, Maryam Camara and Aida Barry each recorded a team-high 12 rebounds.
 
The Express are back in action when they host No. 2 Hostos Community College on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
