Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Drops MLK Classic Opener to Harford

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 19, 2019 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team fell to the Harford Community College Fighting Owls, 102-32, in the opening game of the Monroe College MLK Classic on Saturday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
The Express struggled to find their shooting touch in the first half, and headed into halftime down 55-9.
 
In the second half, the Express found their range, shooting 33.3 percent from the floor, but the Fighting Owls pulled away with a 102-32 victory.
 
Julie Trowers led the Express with 11 points, while Destinee White added nine points and four assists off the bench.
 
Maryam Camara led the Express defensively with eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks, while Jacqueline Jimenez had a season-high five boards.
 
With the loss, the Express fall to 7-12 on the season, while the Fighting Owls moving to 19-1.
 
The Express will wrap up the Monroe College MLK Classic on Sunday, Jan. 20 when they take on the Monroe Mustangs in their second intra-campus matchup of the season at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
