NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 15, 2019 –
Julie Trowers scored a program-high 46 points as Monroe Express women's basketball scored a program-record 123 points in their 123-21 win over Bronx Community College on Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
After the Express and Broncos traded buckets to open the first quarter, Monroe raced ahead with a 12-0 run, and ended the quarter on a 17-0 run to take a 31-5 lead.
The Express continued their charge in the second quarter, scoring another 31 points to take a 62-11 lead into the half.
Trowers led the Express with 30 points at the half, breaking the program-record of 29 she set against Sullivan County on Nov. 11, 2018.
The Express outscored the Broncos, 45-6, in the third quarter, and 16-4 in the fourth quarter to pick up the 123-21 victory.
With the win, the Express move to 7-11 (6-3 Region XV) on the season, while the Broncos drop to 2-11 (2-9 Region XV).
Trowers led the Express with a program-record 46 points, adding 13 steals, a program-high, for her eighth double-double of the season. Trowers also set program-records for most field goals made in a game (23), field goal percentage (76.7%) and most steals (13), while tying the program-record for most field goal attempts with 30.
Maryam Camara also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while six total Express players scored in double-figures and every Express player that saw the court scored.
Ariana Jones scored a season-high 15 points, while
Tatyana Forde,
Brianna Williams and Jaqueline Jimenez added 14, 11 and 10 points each, respectively.
Destinee White led the Express with nine assists as Monroe shot 59.4 percent from the floor in the victory.
The Express will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 22 when they take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
