NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 15, 2019 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team dropped a Region XV matchup to the Bronx Community College Broncos, 87-78, on Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Express fall to 8-8 (4-7 Region XV) on the season, while the Broncos move to 7-10 (4-7 Region XV).
After a back-and-forth first half that included six ties and nine lead changes, the Express went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead out to 35-30 with just over 30 seconds to play.
However, with a layup and an and-one from Malik Hamilton, the Broncos answered with a 5-0 run of their own to close the gap and tie the game heading into halftime.
Hamilton knocked down a three to give Bronx the lead to open the second half, and the Broncos led till
Taffari Jarvis' layup with 14:14 remaining gave the Express a 48-47 lead.
Down the stretch the Broncos and Express traded buckets, until the score sat at 60-all, with just over nine minutes remaining. From there, Bronx went on a 7-0 run to take a lead they'd never relinquish.
The Broncos led by as many as 12 as the Express weren't able to close the gap and eventually fell by the final score, 87-78.
With the loss, the Express and Broncos split their season series, with the road team winning both matchups.
Gian Batista led the Express with 23 points and nine rebounds, while
Dashawn Hines recorded his second-consecutive and ninth-overall double-double, totaling 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Ghetty Allui notched 15 points off the bench, while
Christopher Davis joined the trio in double-figures scoring 10 points.
The back-and-forth affair between the two Region XV foes features 16 lead changes and nine ties, with neither team leading by more than 12.
The Express will look to get back on track when they travel to Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. to take on the Sullivan County Community College Generals at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
