TROY, N.Y., January 12, 2019 – Double-doubles from
Julie Trowers and
Maryam Camara were not enough as Monroe Express women's basketball fell to the 10th-ranked Hudson Valley Community College Vikings, 98-62, on Saturday at the McDonough Sports Complex.
Behind a 25-point first quarter, the Vikings jumped out to early lead against the Express. And while Monroe outscored Hudson Valley, 21-19, in the second half, the Express headed into halftime down 44-28.
Hudson Valley pulled away in the third, outscoring the Express, 29-12 in the quarter, before picking up the 98-62 victory.
Trowers led the Express with her seventh double-double and second-straight 20-point performance, tallying 20 points and 20 rebounds. Camara notched her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while
Destinee White joined the pair in double-figures with 11 points.
The Express will look to get back on track on Tuesday, Jan. 15 when they host Bronx Community College at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
