Monroe Express Men’s Soccer Tops Bronx, 3-2, in Overtime Thriller

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 18, 2018Ryan Smart's 92nd minute goal broke a 2-2 tie and Monroe Express men's soccer defeated Bronx Community College, 3-2, on Tuesday at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, N.Y. to move to 3-2 (3-1 Region XV) on the season.

Abdoul Sangare gave the Express an early 1-0 lead on a penalty kick goal in the 23rd minute, knocking it past Anthony Williams for his second goal of the year. And just three minutes later, Mamadou Diombera found the back of the net for the sixth time this season, punching it past Williams off the assist from Smart to make it 2-0.

But Shaibu Musah cut the Express' lead in half a little over a minute later, and in the 56th minute, Adamou Agoroh evened the match at two-goals apiece.

Monroe and Bronx stood level the rest of the way, and another 10 minutes were needed to decide the outcome of the match.

And just under two minutes into the extra period, Smart gave the Express a 3-2 lead that they'd never relinquish.

Smart led the Express with nine shots, while Diombera added seven and Elhadj Diallo tallied six. In goal for the Express, Mustapha Ceesay tallied two saves, while Monroe outshot the Broncos, 32-9.

Now on a two-game winning streak, the Express will look to make it three-in-a-row on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they take on Queensborough Community College at 4 p.m. at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, N.Y.
